TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA POODLE.

Our favourite entrant at the Super Groom 2007 competition in Vegas last week. We're convinced it would make the best guard dog ever - would love to see the reaction of a burglar breaking into a house to find this thing running at them across the lawn. Normal guard dogs are scary enough, but one with a protective shell and mad ninja skills? Daaamn.

Another popular entrant was this hot bitch below... The dog is the one in front.

But when the dust and clipped hair settled, the trophy ended up with this dog/horse hybrid. The poodle also did pretty well, ha, ha.

SMELLS LIKE MARKETING.

Magazine Ad (Warning: Fragrance is not suitable for human consumption)

Web Ad (Warning: Fragrance may cause rashes in sensitive areas)

Sex sells. Or maybe not.

We've never really liked TOM FORD, considering him more of a trashy showman than a talented designer, but are pretty amused by his desperate attempts to shock with his latest ad campaign.

Having already done the Gucci shaved 'G' and M7 full frontal male, he probably figured trying to outrage the general public again would be good for a few bucks...

Not sure how sales are doing but these days it all looks a bit contrived, shallow, dated and, well, boring. Still, at least it made us laugh.

We're guessing her name is Geraldine.

ANTi-POD.

We're all big APPLE fans here at 707, but even we admire the stand NOKIA is taking with their latest street ads making fun of the iPhone's network and software locked status.

We've been using an unlocked iPhone for a month, and although it's an amazing piece of technology with an incredibly intuitive user interface, it's a crap phone* and its potential is wasted by limited installed software, and the inability to install software from third parties (without hacking it first). We're not the only ones we know who've reverted back to using our trusty Nokia E61i's and N95's for regular phone use. Still, we have to concede that it's impressive for a first-gen product - can't wait to see what they add with firmware updates or to future versions, and at the very least it should get the original mobile makers to up their game...

*can't forward SMS's, or SMS more than one person at a time, or search contacts, or copy and paste, or... the list goes on. and on.

In semi-related news, for anyone afraid of iPod or iPhone theft you might want to invest in the HIDE-A-POD... Hide your iPod inside a Zune and wander the streets without fear!

SOLO LEGO.

For US$500 bucks you can now buy the LEGO version of "the ship that made the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs"; the Millenium Falcon. At over 5,000 pieces (and almost 3 feet long) this is the largest Lego set ever produced and comes with a certificate authenticating that you need to get a life and are too old to be playing with spaceships made of plastic bricks.

Expected build time is over 15 hours...

Even the manual weighs over 4 pounds...

MINI DJ'S.

Apologies for yet another YouTube clip - always a hassle to watch in Indo where internet is still in the dark ages and powered by steam. Had to post this though - a crazy clip where our first reaction was 'Holy s**t, that's incredible' swiftly followed by the depressing realisation that a 6 year old kid is way cooler than we'll ever be...

Unless of course, these aren't really little kid DJ's, but evil midgets posing as little kid DJ's.

Yeah, that's probably it...

BIZ'S BEAT OF THE DAY.

Bored and need to learn a new skill? Let uncle Biz give you a lesson courtesy of Yo Gabba Gabba.

Yeah, we know we posted about Yo Gabba Gabba already, but we're still transfixed by the greatest kids show since Pee Wee's Playhouse (anyone who mentions Teletubbies gets a beatdown).

YO YO GABBA GABBA YO!

At it’s core Yo Gabba Gabba! is allegedly meant for little kids, but we’ll watch any show hosted by a guy named DJ Lance Rock that also features guests like Biz Markie (!), Tony Hawk, Elijah Wood, The Aquabats and The Shins!

Already storming the US airwaves, check YouTube for clips... And get ready for the upcoming toy release by our friends at Kidrobot!

{Editor's note: We take no responsibility for those who watch whilst on medication or illegal substances}

BEAT THE HEAT.

A couple of the 707 partners were just in Tokyo for SUMMER SONIC. Came back raving about the Japanese concert experience (clean, organized, with wildly enthusiastic crowds shouting things like "we respect you!") but traumatized by the infamous Tokyo summer heat and humidity.

For a better idea of the kind of desperate measures Tokyoites are willing to go to in order to escape the heat, check this photo of a popular wave pool... Even better, check the YouTube video to see the surreal human wave.

Guess the Japanese have a slightly different definition of 'overcrowded' than we do... Personally we think it would have been cool if right after the wave machine started, trap doors suddenly opened up to release the sharks with laser beams on their heads... Another great opportunity for laughs and hi-jinks wasted...

GOOGLE MOON. AND MARS.

The sequel to Google Earth. Added to commemorate the first moon landing... No excuses next time you're lost on the dark side of the moon looking for the Sea of Tranquility Starbucks.

UPDATE: Seems that they've also got a Google Mars now as well...

SPACE COWBOY.

Love this NASA photo we came across while surfing... Something about the way it manages to be tranquil yet unnerving (in a 'sh*t-did-i-remember-to-charge-my-jetpack-battery-last-night?' kind of way) at the same time...

Anyway, pretty incredible shot. Well worth the billions in taxpayers money NASA receives. Right...

CLAM DOWN EVERYBODY.

check the first line...

Yeah, we KNOW that English isn't the first language in Indonesia, but still doesn't stop us being amused by the typos, grammatical and usage errors we see everywhere.

Just caught this one at Jakarta airport - one of the best we've seen recently, especially since it's part of a major campaign and in a high profile location where it'll be greeting hordes of english speakers...

HARDER, BETTER, FASTER, STRONGER.

We love Daft Punk too, but this guy's got way too much time on, sorry, gotta say it... his hands.

CHECK AGAIN.

Seems this new-fangled 'chess' game is pretty popular, so we decided one post probably wasn't enough... The latest nerd gag? Gluing the pieces to a board, hitting the closest amusement park ride and having their photo taken 'playing' during the big drop.

Have to admit, pretty funny... although we're still fans of the FLASH MOUNTAIN trick...

COVERAGE.

Yeah, we know our stores and brands are featured in magazines all over the place, but it's cool to get a cover that not only features our stuff, but is also shot in our store... Although it's been used previously for filming, music videos, TV shows, photoshoots and even MTV, this is our store's first cover... Aaaah, you broke your cherry...

Check the cover of the upcoming issue of FHM collections - shot recently in 707 Kemang featuring Fahri Albar.

(If you're looking for something more serious, check the latest issue of prominent Indo biz mag SWA as they probe us for business tips...)

CHECK MATES.

Sanjer gets a 4.4/5 and is possibly telekinetic.

So, you're a male nerd sitting at home alone on a Saturday night. Starcraft II is still months away, and you're bored of trying to hack the iPhone... What to do?

Uncle 707 to the rescue! Our recommendation? CHESSPICS.com Definitely further evidence that the internet caters to every known niche... This site features dozens of photos of female chess players deep in thought, ready to be rated by visitors. The perfect place to find the future mother of your nerdlings or Princess Leia cosplayer.

NOTE: 707 is not 'Nerdist' and will not tolerate Nerdism of any form. We love nerds and appreciate all the gadgets they have created for us over the years. May they live long and prosper and apologies for not picking you until last when choosing teams at school.

iPHONY

100 hours until the iPhone, zero hours until their loser status is confirmed

4 days until the iPhone launches and the hype is deafening enough that it's almost going to be uncool to have one. almost. well, definitely if you're one of the guys already lining up outside the NYC 5th avenue Apple store...

anyway, the European and Asian launches aren't due for months, and the gadget is allegedly locked to Cingular (go-go-Indo-hackers... that's what they said about the 360 and the Wii - games currently about a buck apiece in Jakarta...), so we figured we'd help you out.

just download, print, cut, fold, glue, and start posing. just tell everyone you got it early cos Steve's a friend, and don't let 'em look too closely (use the non-disclosure excuse).

STARCRAFT II.

Yeah, it's nerdy, but the original was/is such a phenomenon that we had to mention this. Even 10 years after its launch Starcraft is still one of the top selling PC games, one of the top 3 online games, and has matches broadcast on TV with professional players earning US$200k a year...

Anyway, Blizzard has announced the sequel, under the imaginative moniker STARCRAFT II, and geeks are celebrating in the streets. Of course, no release date given, so could still be waiting another 10 years for this to arrive... Of course by that time there will no longer be computers, instead all humans will be plugged into the matrix with one unified consciousness, and gaming will no longer exist.

FORM AND FUNCTION.

Here at 707 we've always had the belief that simple, affordable and functional design sells... With that in mind, want to take a guess at the biggest selling consumer electronic item of the decade?

Nope, not the Razr (50 million units). Or the iPod (100 million units). The current bestseller by a landslide is an ultra-basic phone that we've been fans of since its release a couple of years ago. The Nokia 1100. Sales so far are over 200 million units. Pretty incredible.
