SMELLS LIKE MARKETING.
We've never really liked TOM FORD, considering him more of a trashy showman than a talented designer, but are pretty amused by his desperate attempts to shock with his latest ad campaign.
Having already done the Gucci shaved 'G' and M7 full frontal male, he probably figured trying to outrage the general public again would be good for a few bucks...
Not sure how sales are doing but these days it all looks a bit contrived, shallow, dated and, well, boring. Still, at least it made us laugh.

ANTi-POD.
We've been using an unlocked iPhone for a month, and although it's an amazing piece of technology with an incredibly intuitive user interface, it's a crap phone* and its potential is wasted by limited installed software, and the inability to install software from third parties (without hacking it first). We're not the only ones we know who've reverted back to using our trusty Nokia E61i's and N95's for regular phone use. Still, we have to concede that it's impressive for a first-gen product - can't wait to see what they add with firmware updates or to future versions, and at the very least it should get the original mobile makers to up their game...
*can't forward SMS's, or SMS more than one person at a time, or search contacts, or copy and paste, or... the list goes on. and on.
In semi-related news, for anyone afraid of iPod or iPhone theft you might want to invest in the HIDE-A-POD... Hide your iPod inside a Zune and wander the streets without fear!

SOLO LEGO.
For US$500 bucks you can now buy the LEGO version of "the ship that made the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs"; the Millenium Falcon. At over 5,000 pieces (and almost 3 feet long) this is the largest Lego set ever produced and comes with a certificate authenticating that you need to get a life and are too old to be playing with spaceships made of plastic bricks.LABELS: MISCELLANEOUS, TOYS

MINI DJ'S.
Apologies for yet another YouTube clip - always a hassle to watch in Indo where internet is still in the dark ages and powered by steam. Had to post this though - a crazy clip where our first reaction was 'Holy s**t, that's incredible' swiftly followed by the depressing realisation that a 6 year old kid is way cooler than we'll ever be...
Yeah, that's probably it...

BIZ'S BEAT OF THE DAY.
Bored and need to learn a new skill? Let uncle Biz give you a lesson courtesy of Yo Gabba Gabba.
Yeah, we know we posted about Yo Gabba Gabba already, but we're still transfixed by the greatest kids show since Pee Wee's Playhouse (anyone who mentions Teletubbies gets a beatdown).

BEAT THE HEAT.
A couple of the 707 partners were just in Tokyo for SUMMER SONIC. Came back raving about the Japanese concert experience (clean, organized, with wildly enthusiastic crowds shouting things like "we respect you!") but traumatized by the infamous Tokyo summer heat and humidity. For a better idea of the kind of desperate measures Tokyoites are willing to go to in order to escape the heat, check this photo of a popular wave pool... Even better, check the YouTube video to see the surreal human wave.
Guess the Japanese have a slightly different definition of 'overcrowded' than we do... Personally we think it would have been cool if right after the wave machine started, trap doors suddenly opened up to release the sharks with laser beams on their heads... Another great opportunity for laughs and hi-jinks wasted...

GOOGLE MOON. AND MARS.

The sequel to Google Earth. Added to commemorate the first moon landing... No excuses next time you're lost on the dark side of the moon looking for the Sea of Tranquility Starbucks.
UPDATE: Seems that they've also got a Google Mars now as well...

CLAM DOWN EVERYBODY.
Just caught this one at Jakarta airport - one of the best we've seen recently, especially since it's part of a major campaign and in a high profile location where it'll be greeting hordes of english speakers...

iPHONY
anyway, the European and Asian launches aren't due for months, and the gadget is allegedly locked to Cingular (go-go-Indo-hackers... that's what they said about the 360 and the Wii - games currently about a buck apiece in Jakarta...), so we figured we'd help you out.

just download, print, cut, fold, glue, and start posing. just tell everyone you got it early cos Steve's a friend, and don't let 'em look too closely (use the non-disclosure excuse).

STARCRAFT II.
Anyway, Blizzard has announced the sequel, under the imaginative moniker STARCRAFT II, and geeks are celebrating in the streets. Of course, no release date given, so could still be waiting another 10 years for this to arrive... Of course by that time there will no longer be computers, instead all humans will be plugged into the matrix with one unified consciousness, and gaming will no longer exist.

FORM AND FUNCTION.
Nope, not the Razr (50 million units). Or the iPod (100 million units). The current bestseller by a landslide is an ultra-basic phone that we've been fans of since its release a couple of years ago. The Nokia 1100. Sales so far are over 200 million units. Pretty incredible.
