We're all big APPLE fans here at 707, but even we admire the stand NOKIA is taking with their latest street ads making fun of the iPhone's network and software locked status.

We've been using an unlocked iPhone for a month, and although it's an amazing piece of technology with an incredibly intuitive user interface, it's a crap phone* and its potential is wasted by limited installed software, and the inability to install software from third parties (without hacking it first). We're not the only ones we know who've reverted back to using our trusty Nokia E61i's and N95's for regular phone use. Still, we have to concede that it's impressive for a first-gen product - can't wait to see what they add with firmware updates or to future versions, and at the very least it should get the original mobile makers to up their game...

*can't forward SMS's, or SMS more than one person at a time, or search contacts, or copy and paste, or... the list goes on. and on.

In semi-related news, for anyone afraid of iPod or iPhone theft you might want to invest in the HIDE-A-POD... Hide your iPod inside a Zune and wander the streets without fear!

Incredibly, George Foreman has made over US$150 million (doh!) from sales of his grill, so Homer could soon be giving Mr. Burns a run for his money. Literally. Well, as literally as is possible for a fictional 2D animated character...

Although shots of the monochrome have been floating around for a while now, the first photos of the black (allegedly, although possibly photoshopped) have just appeared courtesy of KIX-FILES.

The guys at AMBUSH/SURRENDER in Singapore will be getting a shipment of both soon... Better be quick, these are going to disappear as quickly as the first one, then you'll be alone for the holidays. Again.

Before we discovered other substances to boost our creativity, there was Play-Doh. That distinctive aroma was definitely our first natural high :)

To celebrate Play-Doh's 50th anniversary, Hasbro, the brand's owners, have released a limited edition Eau de Play-Doh based on that special childhood memory.

Like Hasbro said on their website "Childhood memories last forever, but Play-Doh perfume is only available through the end of the year". A bargain at only 19 bucks a bottle? Go grab it before it's considered illegal.

TAG MONACO.

After showing off prototypes for quite a while, TAG HEUER has finally released images of the production version of its car-engine inspired Monaco V4 watch. The V4 is unique for being the first ever belt-driven wristwatch.

We're not convinced this really has any advantage over a traditional automatic watch movement, it sounds a bit like boasting about your new steam-engine powered laptop. Anyway, we're still impressed by the technical creativity that went into developing the movement, and aesthetically it looks pretty damn cool...

PAUL SMITH hooks up with Italian furniture makers BOTTEGA MONTANA for a limited edition longboard called the Corvetta. The quality of the wood and woodworking expertise used is pretty amazing - check the joints where the different pieces of wood connect... As with all their longboards, each is numbered and branded.

Now this is marketing. Rather than spend cash on hiring graphic designers and artists to do the covers of your books, let your customers do it themselves for free!

Having already released a series of classic novels with covers designed by famous artists, designers and photographers, PENGUIN books is now releasing classic novels with completely blank covers. Have to admit this is a pretty good gift idea...

Our suggestion for Penguin's next product? How about completely blank books that the customers have to write themselves? At the same full price of course.

PS3 IS HERE.

The just-released and sold-out PS3 is already available in Jakarta! For the low,low price of... 13million rupes (US$1400 in real money). The list price is about US$600. No idea how much games are, but this is already the 6th unit this store has brought in (and it's already on hold). We're in the wrong business.

The same store also has chipped Xbox 360's with games for US$3.50, and sells Nintendo DS games on memory cards for a buck a pop... When it comes to black market importing or piracy, it's good to see that Indonesia is still number one.

UPDATE:
Maybe an US$800 premium isn't such a bad deal, considering the chances of getting shot, carjacked and more...We'll stick to the Nintendo Wii.

SEGWAY's plan to get everyone gliding on their self-balancing scooters seems to be gaining speed. One of our dream gadgets, the X2, has bigger off-road tires for, well, going off-road, and even has a version equipped with a golf bag carrier.

Supposedly the Segway is so simple and intuitive that any idiot can use it, although the photo below shows that some idiots obviously can't.

If you've never heard of El Bulli in Spain, they you can't be that into food. And if you've never heard of Lavazza, well that's not such a big deal.

El Bulli is considered by many food critics to be the world's best restaurant, and has had that title for quite some time now. Located just outside Barcelona, you need to book your table months in advance (it receives almost 1000 reservation requests a day). It's one of our ambitions to one day have dinner there. With Rachel Bilson. And Audrey Hepburn. Yup, unlikely to happen.

Lavazza is a famous Italian coffee company, sort of the Nescafe of Italy. But better.

Together, head chef Ferran Adria and Lavazza have come up with Espesso. It's made by combining ingredients in a pressurized cannister for 12 hours, then sprayed into the espresso cup and eaten with a spoon. Normally this would sound like a gimmick, but given Ferran's rep and the fact that it's a runner for Time magazines product of the year, we're pretty eager to give it a try...

Not quite sure why BUGATTI's name keeps popping up on the site. Must be our destiny to have a VEYRON - perfect for cruising Jakarta's smooth wide boulevards, with children waving merrily as we glide by, their parents smiling as they sip cappucinos in sidewalk cafes, and doves flying overhead in the blue, cloud-free sky... As everyone knows, Jakarta is paradise on earth.

Anyway, famed watchmakers PARMIGIANI FLEURIER have made a special edition watch in commemoration of Bugatti's Veyron automobile. Not crazy about the aesthetics of the thing, but technically, pretty impressive and the first watch we've seen with the movement placed sideways. No idea how much this is, but would guess it's a little bit more than a Casio. Yes, even a Casio with a calculator and alarm.
