4 days until the iPhone launches and the hype is deafening enough that it's almost going to be uncool to have one. almost. well, definitely if you're one of the guys already lining up outside the NYC 5th avenue Apple store...

anyway, the European and Asian launches aren't due for months, and the gadget is allegedly locked to Cingular (go-go-Indo-hackers... that's what they said about the 360 and the Wii - games currently about a buck apiece in Jakarta...), so we figured we'd help you out.

Thanks to all that came to Public on Saturday to catch French female DJ and graphic artist Missil hosting a discussion sesssion, mixing eclectic beats, and displaying / customizing her artwork live along with four local female artists (including 707's own Liza and Sanchia from Slyndicates)... Congrats to FUTURE10 and C&C PROJECTS for putting together a memorable and orginal event and thanks for inviting us to be involved...

MHI x ZOLTAR x KANYE.

Came across Kanye wearing the MHI x ZOLTAR tee in the April COMPLEX magazine. He may not appreciate the genius that is JUSTICE, but knows a good T-shirt when he sees one... As for Zoltar, they always manage to come up with original and twisted graphics and this is definitely one of our favourite T's that we've had in 707 recently - still got a couple of sizes left.

Zoltar is currently available at AMBUSH in Singapore.

Speaking of Justice (yup, smoooooth segue) they've just released six of the tee designs from their D.A.N.C.E. video. Available only at Colette (and We Sold Out), where else...

MEGA BLING.

With it's misshaped teeth and diamond studded skull, the latest piece of art from DAMIEN HIRST (famous for his preserved sharks) looks like an inverted image of rapper Paul Wall (known for his misshaped head and diamond studded teeth).

Entitled "For the Love of God" after his mum asked him "for the love of God what are you going to do next" (gotta love that, wish we could reveal a diamond covered skull whenever our mum asked the same thing), it's up for sale for about US$100 million. Not exactly cheap, but you can always justify it as being good value relative to the intrinsic value of the piece. Compare that to the ratio of the cost of paint and canvas in a Van Gogh to its sale price...

Anyway, we're betting 10 bucks and a goblet of crunk juice that Lil Jon buys it, adds a chain and starts wearing it around his neck.

DAFT PUNK IS PLAYING AT OUR HOUSE.

When Japanese toy company MEDICOM gets DIOR's resident (now ex-resident) genius Hedi Slimane to design the clothing for a set of figures you know they're obsessed about quality... When it's for version 2 of their sellout limited edition DAFT PUNK figures you know you've got to check it out. Incredible attention to detail, with working zips and Dior shoe replicas, as well as different sets of hands for different poses.

For our midget readers, this is a great way to get a Dior outfit on the cheap...

KIKS TYO arriving in 707 from Japan soon... Known for their designs geared toward sneaker collectors, these two are from the new Summer '07 season, with all-over prints of rare kicks and boxes. Also keep an eye out for designs featuring Jordan and Tiffany references and more...

STARCRAFT II.

Yeah, it's nerdy, but the original was/is such a phenomenon that we had to mention this. Even 10 years after its launch Starcraft is still one of the top selling PC games, one of the top 3 online games, and has matches broadcast on TV with professional players earning US$200k a year...

Anyway, Blizzard has announced the sequel, under the imaginative moniker STARCRAFT II, and geeks are celebrating in the streets. Of course, no release date given, so could still be waiting another 10 years for this to arrive... Of course by that time there will no longer be computers, instead all humans will be plugged into the matrix with one unified consciousness, and gaming will no longer exist.

NOT JUST FINE. SUPERFINE.

Seems like it doesn't matter if you're a coke-sniffing model with a psycho drug-addicted musician boyfriend, or an anorexic plastic-surgery experiment married to the world's most expensive footballer. They still all want to wear SUPERFINE. Still our choice for the best women's denim line around... The Black Wax (in the photos) and wideleg have already been flying out of 707...

FORM AND FUNCTION.

Here at 707 we've always had the belief that simple, affordable and functional design sells... With that in mind, want to take a guess at the biggest selling consumer electronic item of the decade?

Nope, not the Razr (50 million units). Or the iPod (100 million units). The current bestseller by a landslide is an ultra-basic phone that we've been fans of since its release a couple of years ago. The Nokia 1100. Sales so far are over 200 million units. Pretty incredible.

If you didn't think the French were twisted freaks beforehand, you will now. Had to post these images from the latest French Aids Awareness/Prevention campaign in France. A great example of a campaign that sticks in your mind - still giving us nightmares - but not quite convinced of its effectiveness. Anyway, if you were planning on having sex with giant insects, these might encourage you to think again...

NOUVELLE VAGUE.

Had dinner last night with the band NOUVELLE VAGUE who had just arrived in Jakarta for the first time. Having flown in directly from Paris they were all pretty jet-lagged but still very entertaining company and quite happy to get drunk and talk about the recent French election (none of them voted for the winner).

For those that have been living under a rock for the last few years, Nouvelle Vague are known for their two albums of Bossa Nova cover versions of classic 80's rock/pop songs which were played to death by every 'hip' lounge... Their version of The Dead Kennedys 'Too Drunk to Fuck' is in Quentin Tarantino's latest movie 'Grindhouse'.

Anyway, they'll be playing at Grand Kemang tonight. Check it out.


Incidentally, we knew that Nouvelle Vague meant 'New Wave', but only just found out that so does Bossa Nova... Feel free to use that fact to impress your friends.

We're always suckers for anything related to surrealism. This is the recent BEARBRICK collab with fashion brand MOSCHINO which definitely has hints of artist Rene Magritte...

707's beloved in-house graphic designer Lisza seems destined for greatness... She was just honoured by being included in YEN magazine's annual design book Curvy 4 and her work included in a special exhibition held in Sydney.

Other artists involved in Curvy 4 are Fafi, Elke Kramer (don't forget to check out her necklaces at 707 Kemang!!), Deanne Cheuk, and Marmalade Magazine UK.

GOING PUBLIC.

This Saturday at PUBLIC. Come show off your kicks to others who understand your addiction. Guests kicks will be projected on the walls, so better bring your A-game... 707 crew will be displaying some of their collections.

It's not often that ADIDAS puts out a crazy special edition like this, and for those looking for more luck on the court these are the shoes for you...

As worn by Gil on court recently...

ADIDAS has produced very special editions of four of its signature basketball shoes with the help of cult Los Angeles designer Rolland Berry. All the designs have a Vegas theme, some with images of thousand-dollar bills, others with graphics from cards or roulette wheels.

Only 1500 of each produced, and 707 is the only place in Indonesia where you can buy them... These will be in 707ANNEX from this weekend (and will be on display at the sneaker event at PUBLIC on Saturday). More photos to come...
